Zelfportret Klas Torstensson
Oct 4 2012
Although more than thirty years have passed since the Swedish composer Klas Torstensson moved to the Netherlands, many of his compositions are still inspired by the frozen landscape of the North Pole, such as Lantern Lectures IV and the opera The Expedition (which includesAnna’s Aria). Reminiscences of Swedish folk music are heard in his Pocket Size Violin Concertofrom 2010. In Self-portrait with percussion, an equally autobiographical work, Torstensson pays tribute to the idols of his youth: The Rolling Stones, Frank Zappa, Edgard Varèse and Iannis Xenakis. Torstensson expresses all these aspects of his life in a highly personal idiom that is uncompromising yet crystal clear.
