The Korean composer Unsuk Chin once said, ‘My music is a reflection of my dreams.’ However, concrete experiences can also play a part, as in her ensemble work Gougalōn, inspired by the memory of the crude street theatre that was the only form of entertainment in the Korea of her childhood.
The Dutch première of Gougalōn is flanked by new works by two individualistic Dutch composers. The poet and composer Rozalie Hirs combines a typically Dutch down-to-earthness with the world of the French spectralists in a new work featuring the soprano Susan Narucki in the main role. In Wavespace Yannis Kyriakides investigates virtual space in images and sound in collaboration with the video artist Joost Rekveld.
Live broadcast by Radio 4 (KRO).
