The New Now YOUNG x GRASnacht x Rizoom
Asko|Schönberg, de Doelen and Rizoom present new makers together
Dec 1
Sometimes still rough, sometimes very
beautiful, but always innovative and
surprising. Asko|Schönberg
collaborates with Het Nieuwe Nu YOUNG
in de Doelen. This edition focuses on
Rizoom makers and makers who work
with Asko|Schönberg in GRASpunt.
GRASnacht takes a trip to Rotterdam, to The New Now YOUNG, the place where you discover a new generation of makers. We do this together with Rizoom, a partnership for innovative young makers between De Doelen and other stages, festivals and ensembles. On this evening they will open the doors of their rehearsal room, try out fragments and share with you new music in the making. The makers of this special evening are Anushka Chkheidze, Luke Deane and Pensive Vivifier.
Anushka Chkheidze, a composer from Tbilisi, Georgia, creates electronic music that builds a dreamy world of ambient and IDM (intelligent dance music), blending serene synths with complex rhythms. During her GRASpunt residency in October and November, she is collaborating with three singers from the Slavuj ensemble—Marjolein Sprengers, Annet Bult, and Monique Boogmans—and percussionist Jonathan Bonny from Asko|Schönberg. Together, they are developing a new piece that merges traditional Georgian polyphony with electronic music through experiments in rhythm and vocalization. This ongoing work will be presented in a concert where the musicians will explore innovative approaches to their instruments.
English composer Luke Deane enjoys exploring the boundaries of disciplines. He is contributing to the new co-production Nachtwacht by Asko|Schönberg, NITE, and the Netherlands Chamber Choir, and also performs as his alter ego Lisa, with whom he is currently recording a pop album. At GRASnacht x De Doelen, experience Song of the Turtle—an interactive opera by Luke Deane that immerses the audience in an imaginary world of nature. Joined by violinist Christine Cornwell, Luke brings a unique fusion of video game and opera to life, inviting the audience to navigate a maze of sound-driven levels. From hybrid instruments to captivating arias, this is an innovative performance made possible with support from Fonds Podiumkunsten.
Pensive Vivifier, an anti-disciplinary ensemble composed of Janne Kosmos, Tes Wolters Bos, and Silva Westera, brings digital and physical worlds together through video art, performance, musical compositions, and clubbing. Using an associative approach, humor, and sampling, they connect diverse internet content to create an intimate moment within the overwhelming stream of information. During their summer residency, they explored Asko|Schönberg’s visual and sound archives and collaborated with violinist Noa Eyl and trombonist Koen Kaptijn. Their improvisations and audio recordings form the basis for new video compositions. On December 1, GRASnacht in De Doelen will offer a preview of their larger project for 2026, inspired by the St. Matthew Passion.
