13 Dec 2019 — 23 Jan 2020
Using live music, fascinating guest speakers, and video and audio excerpts, Asko|Schönberg is taking audiences on a journey along the gems of twentieth-century music.
This Treasure Trove zooms in on Mauricio Kagel (b. 1931, d. 2008), the Argentine–German composer who left behind an astonishing œuvre in which music theatre plays a leading role. Having made no secret of his political engagement, he aims to communicate with listeners through his music, touch them and make them think. The presenter is Hans Goedkoop, known from the television programme Andere Tijden.
Reinbert de Leeuw, who was a friend of Kagel’s and has performed many of his works, will giving an interview on this Treasure Trove concert.
Each Treasure Trove production focuses on a different composer, examining the significance of his or her music at the time and why it continues to be relevant today. They feature a compact programme in an informal setting.
