Pierrot lunaire
With Patricia Kopatchinskaja
Dec 20 2018
This is truly a first: the phenomenal violinist Kopatchinskaja will perform the narrator’s role in Arnold Schönberg’s Pierrot lunaire for the first time – and only on one occasion in the Netherlands.
Schönberg composed this piece for a small-sized ensemble with an expressive role for the speaking voice in 1912 to poems by the Belgian Albert Giraud (1860-1929) about Pierrot, the classic clown from the commedia dell’arte.
It goes without saying that the Grammy Award winner will also bring her violin to the Doelen concert hall. Prior to Pierrot lunaire you can see and hear Kopatchinskaja’s universally acclaimed talent for contemporary music in Luigi Nono’s La lontananza nostalgica utopica futura for solo violin and electronics.
