Oost en west
Brand-new solo concerto for the French violist Geneviève Strosser
Mar 6 2014
The Polish composer Hanna Kulenty has been living in the Netherlands for the past twenty years. Nevertheless her sumptuous sound idiom is more rooted in East European soil than in the sodden Dutch polder landscape.
She has written a brand-new solo concerto for the French violist Geneviève Strosser. The programme also features two native Dutch compositions: a new work by Peter-Jan Wagemans and Scenes from an old memory box by Joey Roukens, a piece in which the young composer recalls musical reminiscences from bygone days. The Korean Seung-Ah Oh brings together East and West in her music. Her DaDeRimGil is based on the rhythms used by Korean washerwomen.
