Odysseus
This concert will be postponed
4 — 12 Mar
A turbulent journey filled signifies the new work Odysseus by Calliope Tsoupaki (composer) and Awoiska van der Molen (visual artist/photographer).
What happens when we are at risk of losing control, when one action leads to irreversible consequences? The inspiration for this musical drama is taken from the myth Odysseus. More specifically, the moment during Odysseus’ journey when the headwinds escape from a bag and develop into an uncontrollable storm.
The musicians function as characters and are challenged in their virtuosity and musical drama, replacing the text. A projection of photographs taken on Greek soil enhances musical emotions. Odysseus is a dialogue between movement and image, in which Calliope and Awoiska confront us with the consequences of our human actions in the here and now.
This concert has been made possible thanks to the Mondriaan Fund.
