Nieuw pianoconcert en tintelfrisse reïncarnaties
The veteran Frederic Rzewski caused a sensation performing his own socially conscious piano music. This New Yorker with Polish roots vented his fury about social injustice in his inflammatory and forceful piano playing. Resettling in Belgium, he has developed connections with musicians and ensembles from our region since 1977.
Daan Vandewalle performs the première of Rzewski’s second piano concerto composed shortly after its predecessor. The audacious German composer Hans Zender transforms indisputable masterworks into contemporary soundworlds. Old wine in new barrels? Sparkling new reincarnations! His Winterreise has enjoyed widespread acclaim. With percussion, accordion and trumpet Zender proves just how inspiring and, above all, innovative Beethoven’s Diabelli Variations remains to this very day
