For years, conductor Christian Karlsen has had a predilection for the music of Anders Hillborg. During this concert the young Swede will give the first performance of a brand-new score by this composer and fellow countryman in a programme full of personal favourites.

Connoisseurs of Hillborg’s work will probably expect it to comprise an imposing soundscape of iridescent orchestrations and rich textures. Music as a surprising natural phenomenon, as the composer once labelled his own notes. The work of Iannis Xenakis is also frequently likened to untamed forces of nature. This is illustrated in the robust world of sound in his ensemble piece Thallein. Kate Moore’s Cello Concerto is a reevaluation of the traditional cello concerto. The three-movement score is written for solo cello, large ensemble and sculpture machines.
