A tragicomedy in four acts – co-production of DNO and Holland Festival
Laika, a co-production of De Nederlandse Opera and Holland Festival, tells the tale of Robbert, a popular television compère. Wishing to liberate himself from his earthly existence, Robbert establishes contact with the dog Laika, the first animal to orbit the earth in a space capsule. In four extremely varied acts that embrace experimentation, Padding and his librettist P.F. Thomése demonstrate in a compelling and satirical manner that the world just keeps on turning, even without television.
