GRASnacht: Song of Songs
Jun 19
Immerse yourself during this GRASnacht in spiritual sounds and religious beats. Our GRASpunt residents will elevate you to higher realms and share the results of their musical research. From a godlike hand in a Czech animated movie to the “angelic troublemakers” of Club Church who take you deep into queer nightlife. A sultry summer GRASnacht you won’t want to miss.
Club Church
What does it feel like to let loose with God watching over your shoulder? For many members of the queer community, the renowned nightclub Club Church in Amsterdam serves as a sanctuary for self-discovery, self-expression, and acceptance. But at the same time, it’s also a place of secrets and shame. Trombonists Sebastiaan Kemner and Andrew Macleod, together with composer and performer Rick van Veldhuizen, explore the complex relationship between religion and queerness. Set in a nightclub and featuring music from a thousand years ago, all boundaries of genre and style are disregarded.
Ruka
Anna voor de Wind performs the haunting music composed by Trevor Grahl for the animated film ‘Ruka’ (The Hand) from Czechoslovakia, made during the Soviet era. The hand, which demands that an artist only create images of it, symbolizes the dictatorial communist regime. In the end, the artist is forced to give in to the pressure exerted by the hand.
This inspiring evening takes place at our workspace GRASpunt; Grasweg 41R in Amsterdam Noord. Do you want to attend GRASnacht? Send an email to info@askoschoenberg.nl.
