GRASnacht #2

Presentations innovative makers

home

Jun 21

In this second edition of GRASnacht we
present work in progress by resident
Genevieve Murphy, a foretaste of the
work of Pensive Vivifier, who will
be a resident next autumn, and some
solos from Mutability, the new
concert installation as part of the
Holland Festival.
GRASnacht takes place in GRASpunt.

Genevieve Murphy has a fascination for psychology and
disability, integrating this into her compositions
and performances. Her research is focused on the
physical and sonic link between sound and performance
in a way that one cannot exist without the other.
The composer’s musical influences cross between
contemporary classical, electronic pop, punk and
free improvisation.
Het residency will be focused on taking the highland
bagpipes out of context and developing material for
them with instruments that would not usually be
associated with this instrument. Bagpipes are
incredibly loud, microtonal and limited in pitch. She
plans on making a song and bringing the bagpipes into
t. I’d then like to bring in one or two musicians to
collaborate with separately, on the material to see
how the music varies depending on the type of musician
joining me.

Pensive Vivifier, consisting of Janne
Kosmos, Tes Wolters Bos and Silva Westera,
brings digital and physical worlds together.
The anti-disciplinary ensemble moves between
video art, performance, musical composition and
clubbing. Everything takes place in the same
cosmos, influences and reinforces each other.
Using an associative method, sampling, humor
and music, they connect content from all corners
of the internet, telling personal stories about
addiction, bullying and love.
In the run-up to their residency in the autumn,
they will present a program to be determined.

The third presentation consists of solo pieces from the
concert installation Mutability, which can be seen in
the Muziekgebouw on June 23. These are performed by
trumpetplayer Arthur Kerklaan, trombonist
Sebastiaan Kemner and cellist Sebastiaan van Halsema.
