De notenkrakers en de jongere generatie – GEANNULEERD
Sixties and Seventies
Sep 29 2013
Peter Schat, Jan van Vlijmen and Louis Andriessen: the three composers collaborated on the high-profile opera Reconstructie in 1969; however, during the 70s they went their separate ways.
For instance, Schat laid the foundation for his ‘tone clock’ with Canto General and Jan van Vlijmen once again immersed himself in the serial techniques of his early Serie per sei strumenti. Meanwhile, Andriessen was drawn to the pulsating rhythms of minimal music. However, he had less affinity with the sweet-voiced harmonies of his American colleagues, as is evident in Workers Union. Philip Glass’s Music in Similar Motion provides an interesting comparison.
