In this homage to the saxophone Asko|Schönberg will be joined by top saxophonists in the role of soloist and quartet. Piquant crossovers in Hot and Clash of Cultures, a new work by JacobTV and Andriessen’s De Stijl, inspired by Mondrian’s work, showcase the colourful world of the saxophone.  

Ties Mellema plays solo in Hot, a work that evokes the atmosphere of early jazz with great panache. The Aurelia Saxophone Quartet performs the newly composed Tipperary Concert and Van Onna’s work, which brings together the classical and jazz idioms. After the interval Asko|Schönberg, Artvark Saxophone Quartet and Vocaallab join forces to perform De Stijl; inspired by Mondrian’s paintings Composition in Red, Yellow and Blue and Victory Boogie Woogie.
