Colin Currie Festival
Focus on percussion
Oct 5 2014
This festival in honour of the percussionist Colin Currie will present the British première of Louis Andriessen’s Tapdance and the world première of a percussion concerto by Anna Clyne.
Tapdance, a work for solo percussion and large ensemble, was composed especially for Colin Currie, in fulfillment of his much-cherished wish. Currie considers it an honour ‘to collaborate with this great figure in new music, who I have admired and respected since my youth: Louis Andriessen.’ Hoketus displays the powerful, angular style which was to become Andriessen’s trademark. Andriessen’s innovative integration of classical and popular styles had a significant influence on the music of Tansy Davies, whose work Neon (2004) completes this programme.
