OPEN CALL: Context Programme for ‘Shelter’
The need for shelter is as old as humanity itself. Asko|Schönberg (from September 2025 onwards: Het Muziek) invites makers and creatives to develop a context programme around the performance of 'Shelter', a layered work composed by Julia Wolfe, David Lang, and Michael Gordon. This unique piece explores themes related to shelter, safety, and human connection.
Are you a maker with a creative idea to deepen an audience’s concert experience?
We are looking for a creative and innovative contribution that connects the audience to the themes of ‘Shelter’ in an accessible way and adds an extra dimension to the concert evening. The context programme will take place in the foyer of the concert hall around our concerts in December 2025 – but we are open to other interpretations.
What we are looking for
We are looking for a maker or a collective of makers with an original concept for a context programme that:
• Is portable and easy to set up and break-down in a foyer environment of a concert hall.
• Can be repeated throughout the evening, so that different groups of visitors can experience it. • Can be executed in a public space (the foyer of a concert hall) with a low budget.
• Has a clear connection to the themes of ‘Shelter’ – the interpretation and association with the themes are open.
• You are available for two working days on 11, 12, and/or 13 November.
What we offer
• 2 working days in our studio GRASpunt in Amsterdam Noord.
• A joint brainstorming session with members of Het Muziek to further develop the concept and prepare the working days in GRASpunt.
• Compensation for your time and expertise during the working days.
• The opportunity to realize your concept and present it to a wide audience during the concerts of Het Muziek.
Timeline
• Application deadline: 27 June
• Selection deadline: 18 July
• Residency maker(s): on 11, 12, and/or 13 November
Application
Do you have an idea that you would like to realize? Please send your concept (maximum 1 A4), a short motivation, and any relevant visual material or portfolio to: remy.alexander@askoschoenberg.nl before June the 27th 2025.
